PTB Team Energy Barometer℠
Navigating Team Capacity in Real Time
Teams are often asked to carry more: growth, change, AI adoption, leadership shifts, strategic pivots, heavy delivery demands, and the day-to-day work that cannot stop.
But leaders do not always have a clear way to see the gap between what a team is being asked to do and the energy they actually have to do it.
The PTB Team Energy Barometer is a live, systemic diagnostic tool that helps teams visualize their collective bandwidth in the moment. It creates a simple, shared language for naming capacity, energy, and readiness without blame, defensiveness, or the weight of a traditional survey.
This is not about labeling a team. It is about helping leaders and teams see the current energy landscape so they can make better decisions about priorities, support, pace, and execution.
How the PTB Team Barometer Works
The Barometer is an interactive, anonymous tool that registers the team’s current state across a six-point spectrum of team energy and capacity.
Participants anonymously mark where they are on the spectrum at the start of a session using a visual method such as digital markers, a virtual board, or physical Post-it notes.
The team immediately sees a collective snapshot of its energy landscape.
| Orange | Depleted/Overwhelmed | “Running on fumes” |
| Red | Strained/Vigilant | “Managing, but it’s tight” |
| Gold | Guarded/Uncertain | “I’m here, but cautious” |
| Grey | Steady/Functional | “I can engage” |
| Green | Resourced/Focused | “Capable and ready” |
| Blue | Energized/Possibility | “I see momentum” |
Why this Matters for Leaders
The Barometer helps leaders see what is often hard to name directly: the team’s real-time capacity to carry the work in front of them.
It helps leaders:
- See the gap between output expectations and available team energy
- Normalize fluctuation in capacity during periods of change
- Center the system rather than individual personalities
- Create shared awareness without blame or defensiveness
- Surface the “truth of the room” safely and visually
- Establish a baseline that can be tracked over time
- Notice whether team energy shifts as the work progresses
Because the tool is anonymous and visual, it gives teams a safer way to speak honestly. It helps people feel seen before moving into high-stakes conversations about priorities, change, AI adoption, growth, or execution.
Example: The Barometer in Use

Over the course of the engagement, tracking the team’s diagnostic baseline revealed a steady, observable reclamation of collective focus.
The shift was not about pretending the pressure disappeared. It was about helping the team name where they were, focus limited energy, strengthen alignment, and move toward clearer action.

Clearer boundaries, celebrating recent process wins, and ready to optimize.
